The European sarcopenia definition uses low strength, not low muscle mass, as the primary sign
What grip strength counts as sarcopenia?
The finding
Low strength is the primary criterion. The grip cut-offs are under 27 kg for men and under 16 kg for women, taken from Dodds 2014. A chair stand slower than 15 s for five rises is the alternative strength test.

How it was studied
Consensus statement from the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People.
What it does not show
The cut-offs are for diagnosing sarcopenia in older adults. They are not targets for someone of 40.
What Longstanding does with it
The five-rise chair stand in this definition is the same movement as the app’s 5× sit-to-stand. We do not use either cut-off as a line: your line is set by the goal you chose for 85, which for most goals sits well above a diagnostic threshold.
