Longstanding

The link between grip and mortality is close to linear between about 26 and 50 kg

Is there a grip strength above which there is no further benefit?

The finding

Higher grip went with lower all-cause mortality across 26–50 kg in a close-to-linear way. Cardiovascular mortality risk fell between 24 and 40 kg.

How it was studied

Systematic review with dose-response meta-analysis: 48 cohorts, 3,135,473 adults aged 35–85 (49.6% women).

The numbers

Cancer mortality trended U-shaped, with risk reduction between 16 and 33 kg. Heterogeneity for the all-cause curve was moderate (I² 45.7%).

What it does not show

Read in abstract only. The ranges are pooled across both sexes and many devices, so they are not personal targets.

What Longstanding does with it

We do not turn 26–50 kg into a target. Your grip line comes from your age-85 goal and the age and sex norms, not from a pooled curve.
